Post Tools and Parts for Maintenance - 2011 RGC

I plan to do all services for my bike. So figured I would create a thread with all the parts and tools needed to do the job right.

Some of these tools are just nice to have and are not really needed, so avoid the comments of "man! all you really need is a toothpick and some duct tape, why buy all that ****, man!" So in addition to the must needed tools I am including tools that will make life easier or avoid a mess.

This is meant to be for regular maintenance... not deep engine rebuild work. There are pages and pages of tools listed in the workshop manual for that.

Thank to BDMastiff for his input into the list. And any other forum member with a 2009-2011 Road Glide with additional suggestions for tools, chime in!

Price listed for parts or tools are MSRP. I suggest you reach out to PC PAIN on the roadglide forum for a great deal (just a happy customer here) or Zanotti Motor Inc..

Here we go:

Workshop Manual - 99483-11 - $49.95
Dial caliper with stationary base (for brake inspection)
Rotor caliper (for brake rotor thickness inspection)
3/8” small ft-lbs torque wrench
3/8” small in-lbs torque wrench
3/8” Allen wrench
5/16” Allen wrench
5/8” Socket with wrench
7/16” Open end wrench
1/2” Open end wrench
T25 Torque wrench
Motorcycle Lift
Loctite Blue
Loctite Red
Loctite Silver Anti-seize
Clutch cable lubricant - 94968-09 - $5.95
Oil Filter Wrench - 94863-10 - $9.95 - Many options on this. I listed the HD tool for consistency, but I will list at the bottom some other options folks have recommended
Axle Nut Torque Adapter Tool‎ - HD-47925 - $33.95
Belt Tester Tension Tool - 40006-85 - $29.95
Master Service Code Reader - 32312-10 - $149.95
Primary Oil Funnel - 63797-10 - $9.95
Oil Filter Catcher Drain Funnel - 63794-10 - $9.95
Low Profile Oil Drain Pan - 63795-10 - $29.95
Fuel Tank Service Cover – Large - 94640-08 - $29.95 Sure, you can use a towel, but these have magnets that keep them in place... so you minimize the risk of that towel falling on the floor and getting stuff in it that can scratch your paint, or that brake fluid that spilled, or that... you get the idea. Plus they make you look like a pro, lol
Fender Service Cover - Large - 94641-08 - $29.95
Frame Protectors - 94675-99 - $15.95 My lift has rubber covers so the only advantage I get from these is the additional clearance and additional protection from scratches to the frame.

Service parts:

Brake pads – Front - 41854-08 - $49.95
Brake pads – Rear - 41852-08A - $54.95
Air Filter Element - 29633-08 - $24.95
Chrome Oil Filter - 63798-99A - $13.95
Synthetic engine oil (4 qt @ 11.95 /qt) - 99824-03.00QT - $47.80
Formula+ Primary Chaincase Lubricant (requires 38oz wet) - 99851-05 - $17.90
Formula+ Transmission Lubricant (requires 32oz) - 99851-05 - $8.95
Derby cover o-ring and drain plugs o-rings - 17369-06 - $5.95
Spark Plugs - 32362-04 (6R12) - $7.90
Screaming Eagly Heavy Fork Oil (requires 10.7oz) comes in 16oz bottle - 99881-87 - $5.95 - I was told this was a better alternative to the stock oil in the forks. Ultimately I want to replace with progressive springs, but for now, heavy fork oil it is.

And since I can't seem to open a thread without photos...

Derby gasket/o-ring:

Belt Tension Tester Gauge:

Axel nut torque adapter tool:

Filter oil catcher funnel:

Low profile oil pan:

Fender protector:

Tank protector:

Code reader:

Frame protectors:

Another alternative for a oil filter wrench is:

This pdf is cool, with a list of all HD tools needed for a new dealer setup:

Also a quote from NakedSnowman with some cool links.

Only question I have is about the transmission and Primary oil from HD. I don't think those are synthetic. Or does HD sells a synthetic option I did not see in the catalog? Or can I use the Screamin' Eagle® SYN3® Full Synthetic Motorcycle Lubricant - SAE 20W50 (99824-03.00QT) on all three (engine, primary, and transmission)?
