Default Installing Highway Pegs

Ok, so after about 250 miles yesterday and another 100+ today I decided that I want highway pegs. I stopped by my local dealer (open on Memorial Day) and picked up the adjustable highway peg mounting kit and new pegs. The whole install went fine except for the little D washer that is supposed to fit where the peg mounts to the mounting kit. It just wont fit. Without it, the peg flops around and is certain to rattle when I ride. Does anyone know the trick to making this work?

I think that D washer is spring loaded, little pressure it should work. Yes you do need it.

The directions really are not that complicated, you just need to squeeze it in. Pretty simple

You might have to tap it in lightly with a small hard rubber hammer.

It's tough to get in but it will go. Once you figure out the first one, the second one will be easier.

I did a little "tap, tap" with a rubber mallet as mentioned above.

Thanks for the replies.

I agree that the instructions are very simple. That is why it's frustrating. But, it sounds like more than one had to resort to a hammer to get it to go. I'll give the rubber mallet thing a try when I get home tonight. Hopefully, I will re-post with success!

Thanks again all,

-PB

It's a little tight to get on, but you can do it. Use a piece of wood if you don't have a rubber mallet. I won't tell you not to scratch the chrome.

Thanks all,

Got em installed with the assistance of a little blunt force. And no, Geezer, I didn't scratch the chrome! Now, if the pouring rain will stop, I can try them out.

Thanks again everyone,

For future reference -- I always got it "started" fine -- It was getting it *perfectly* lined up to install the bolt that was the PITA.

Once it's "sort of" in there, you can put a round screwdriver in and tap it (the screwdriver) gently with a hammer going around the hole -- That will seat the peg and washer perfectly so you can get the bolt in easily.
