Default TTS V-Tune: How much Better Than Canned Map?

I just put a set of SE255 cams in my 2011 103" Street Glide, and downloaded the TTS calibrated map for this set up.

The bike seems to run well, but I have nothing to compare it to, other than the stock set up I previously had.

Is it worth the time & effort to learn to use the TTS V-Tune program that came with my kit?

Just how much of an improvement is the V-Tune over the canned map that I just downloaded?

Thanks

I think it will be well worth your time to do the vtune process. I just recently changed to the tts mastertune when I changed cams. My tuner put the canned map in and did a dyno run. Big difference to what I had before the custom tune and after. I went to Docs Performance Tuning in central Florida. Highly recommend him. Give him an email, he is very willing to help out and share his knowledge.

+1 on Doc's. That is where I bought my TTS from. Awesome guy.

One of the keys is getting VE's set correctly and that's done through the V-Tune process.

I think many are like you and see the process as rather complex and difficult. But once through, you'll have a much better understanding and the following tuning sessions become a lot easier.

Save the factory map to a thumb drive then give the v-tuning a try. You can always go back to the factory map or the TTS map with a single download.

You need to VTune in order to get the VE tables correct. No canned map, I don't care what tuner it's for, is going to be correct for your bike. All they can do is get close.

When I tune, should I explicitly following the TTS guide, or am I better off 'blending' the VE tables, per Docs write up?
Thanks

Blending is discussed in the TTS Guide as well. Yes, you want to do it, assuming you've correctly populated the VE tables via tuning runs.

I believe the latest version of the V-Tune program gives you the option of blending the VE's automatically (assuming enough cells were populated with usable data) instead of Doc's manual method.

The "auto" method works well for me and I've used both.

I've never messed with the Vtune, been thinking about it just to learn about it. I've modified Doc's map. Unless you ask otherwise Doc tunes the bike with a good combination of fuel economy and performance. Doc has the bike tuned so well, I modified the map for performance and found it very easy to do. I now have four maps starting with Doc's going all the way to rocket performance. I'm not familiar with VE tables, but I know once you have a good base you can do anything with it.
