Default do i need to change my oil?

Did a 95 kit and new cams this summer, have put about 150 miles on it since, going on a 500 mile round trip to a company golf outing, do I need to change the oil?

So the oil in the bike is the "break in" oil?

The rings are seated by now and any assembly lube has been digested. I'd change the oil now whether I'd be going on a trip or not. The old oil's done it's job.

I wouldn't change the oil til I got back from the trip if it were mine.

I would leave it in, bring some dino oil along though to top off if necessary.

What's the danger of leaving it until I get back?

Even though I'm the one that suggested to do it now, I don't believe that you'd hurt anything leaving it in for another 1000 miles.

But my suggestion was based on the reasoning that completely brand new bikes go 1000 miles and get fresh oil, while your bike has the original heads and bottom end well broken in, right? So what purpose does leaving the "old" oil in serve, except keeping the contaminants in longer than necessary now that the new rings have seated ? ( Cams don't need any break in, of course!)

Any time I have done "engine work", I always change the oil at 100 miles or so........I always see some very small silver stuff floating around in the oil. Not to mention what you can't see. Just a thought.

More importantly, you're still breaking it in so vary the speed of the engine.
