Bike rolling with jiffy (kick) stand engaged.....
#31
Yep, I've taken jiffy stands off and put them back together. I know how they work and how they lock in yet after 30+ years of riding Harleys I always park in gear and I always roll the slack out of the gear if I'm on a hill before I put the jiffy stand down. My bikes never move. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

First time I noticed the roll was when I took the test ride on my bike, scared the crap out of me for a second. When I commented on it one of the tech guys was walking by and said "watch this" ...he then got behind the rear fender and pushed the bike forward about foot. The Jiffy stand did not move.

I agree to put it in gear on a slope, but the jiffy stand works very well on its own. My driveway is on a slope and I let my bike idle to warm up on the jiffy stand while I close the garage door. The bike may slide down hill a few inches from the engine thumping the bike around, but I have complete faith in the stand. That is one strong hunk of metal.

I do leave in gear, all the time, then put in N when starting. It helps to rock bike forward to find neutral. Rarely I have a hard time finding N and will just hold clutch in.
