I have the RH xtreme TD and it is a pain in the *** to check fluids. Rinehart now has Classic headers which are like the pre 09 pipes which do not have that issue. I asked about changing the one side and they said you need to buy both for $479. Loosen the cap a couple of turns before hot to make it a little easier to check oil. You need to plan to check the fluids ahead of time. A bit of a joke but I like the pipes. On the plus side you do not need to drop the exhaust to change the clutch cable if you change bars.

Yes, the design does make it a PITA to check the oil, so I opted to purchase the LCD oil level and temp gauge. I purchased this gauge more for the convenience (so I wouldn't have to unscrew the dipstick to check it) and temp option, since I don't feel the need to check my level when hot. This helped me with the problem, although I have heard many stories about the failure of the LCD unit (in many different ways), I, myself have been lucky I guess because mine works great so far. I can check the temp even riding down the road, have to be careful doing this, but it is possible, sitting on the jiffy stand, no problem to check the level.

I do wish the design followed the track of the OEM header though, it would have been a lot nicer. If my LCD does fail (or when it does) I guess I will then weigh my options, as how long it lasted vs changing the header and see which I feel is the better value. Maybe I end up checking the level while the bike is cool, which really shouldn't be a problem, because the bike should never be low enough on oil to warrant checking when hot anyway. I mean how many people ride (even cross country) more than 1000 miles without a rest long enough for the engine to cool? If the bike is using more than a quart of oil in this time, then it needs attention. I believe if someone's bike is using oil, they should know the approximate frequency of the use, as I would for sure, like I have in any bike or vehicle that needed oil between changes.
