Go on Craigslist and get yourself a cheap netbook. VTune to your heart's content. It's amazing the difference it makes.

I'm going to try a slightly richer base setup and investigate how to test/tune spark.

 

Not sure which one you're using, but I'd think you'd want CTD009-03. Leave the cam timing at "4" and see how that does.

 

I loaded a richer *.mt8 file and it appears to be a much better baseline for tuning. The pings under hard acceleration are gone, although the ambient temperature is 20 degrees less then the first time around, which may be a contributing factor. More V-tuning this weekend.

I must say that the bike does seem happier without the cat. It may not actually run cooler, but the amount of heat that a rider feels coming off the pipes at a stoplight is definitely less. That's important down here in SC.
