Default 2009 Fuel Filter change

It's time to change my fuel filter (2009 ultra), I've not been able to locate any info here on the 09's. I've watched the video that is floating around - he did that one on an 04? - I've read all the threads here that I could find.

In the threads that I've read here, I've seen a couple references on the 09's and up being easier - but no details on how. Also, I've seen reference to the 10 screws that should not be used - my manual says nothing about any screws.

Anyone done an 09 or later yet?

I swapped out tanks on my '08 Glide and can tell you if you are comfortable wrenching on your bike, changing the fuel filter isn't that hard. There is a thread on here about using a piece of PVC to knock the retaining ring loose. Once the retaining ring is off the top plate is gently manipulated out and the filter housing is right there. The service manual is of some help too.

thanks. what i am also wondering is do the 09's have these ten screws that I've read about on the older ones-and to not re-use them. I do have the service manual, and see nothing about it. I just want to make sure I have all the parts i need before starting. I've read where others have purchased a fuel filter change kit, for $50 or more, all I got so far was a filter and O-ring.

No screws, retaining ring. It shows you how in the service manual. Its pretty straight forwards.

Is there a tool to use? To prevent boogering the ring?

Yes there is a tool...look for the FUEL PUMP RETAINER RING TOOL here to see what it looks like.

To the OP also, here is a thread that may help as well.

I like Georges Garage tools but that retaining ring tool is way too expensive unless you intend to use it for a living.

It only works on '08 and newer anyway, so we with older bikes must look elsewhere. A friend with an '09 knocked it out as mentioned by someone earlier and said it was an easy job. Those with newer bikes might get a group together for a communal purchase from George's Garage. Three friends and I worked-out such an arrangement for tire-changing paraphernalia and it has saved us a ton of money over the years. The communal filter-tool idea won't save as much, I wouldn't think, as you change tires much more often and the cost savings are higher.
