I had the same problem when I changed bars and grips. The twist grip sensor has a little in and out play that seems to be spring loaded which pushes outward on the splined end. I loosened the clamp with the brake fluid reservoir. I pushed it inward pulling the grip up the bar as far as it would go and held it there until I re-torqued the clamp. This worked so well that when I twisted the throttle it wouldn't snap back. So had to re-loosen the clamp and slide it towards the grip ever so slightly until the grip was loose enough to snap back. Then I re-torqued the clamp.

That's what I did. That won't always work though, depends on the bars and the grips. I know some people who got some slick tape (sticky on one side, something like Teflon on the other) and wrapped a couple turns around the bar (up close to the housing) before putting the grip on, that works too.
