Default Broke My Second Saddlebag Support

The scoot is a 2006 Road King Classic (in pic below) and I've broken the left "Bracket Support Kit, Saddlebag" P/N 90718-79C twice now. The first time at just over 40,000 miles and now the second one at 67,000 miles. The bracket cost $63 and takes me about 30 minutes of install time.

This part is the chrome bracket which runs down the outside of the rear fender and bolts into both the rear of the round tube under the saddlebag and a bracket mounted inside the bottom of the rear fender. The part which has failed for me both times is the small tab at the bottom which has two bolt holes. The bend for this tab is apparently the weak point. My parts guy said he has seen several of these replaced and it is usually the left one.

Anyone else had this failure? Any hints on keeping it at two failures and not more? I don't carry anything heavy in the saddlebags, nor are the bottom bars supporting the full weight of the bags.

Every time someone came in the shop to buy one of those supports I would ask, "Roadking eh?" and sure enough they would say, "Yup!"

Yep, seen em break before. Might consider strengthening the weak point and getting em powder coated black...no more problem.

Just had to replace my left one also. 2006 Road King Classic. 35,000 miles. Strange how it always seems to be the left.

07 Road Glide my left one is cracked halfway through. I will probably just weld it when I swap my rear tire.
