Need thoughts on extended warranties
Hey all, I finally sold my 01 widglide. I'm in the process of financing through HD's "seller assist program", a 06 Electra Glide Standard with 23k miles on it from a private seller. HD wants $1999 for 5 year extended warranty. Just wondering what your thoughts may be.
Some details: Fuel Injected, Screamin' Eagle Cams and oil system, dyno tuned with Harley Tuner (engine work done by Harley Dealer) Rinehart true-dual pipes. Chrome Engine package, Chrome Front End and brake rotors, all braided lines/cables and painted inner fairing. Street Glide seat, console and gauges.

I have it on my 2006 roadglide with 65k on it. The bike has a stock 88ci engine. so far it has covered front mtr mount cracked exhaust header pipe saddle bag springs twice, wiring problems, fuel gaugeand sending unit. saddlebag support brackets, cruise issues, and a scissored crankshaft that ended up with the warrenty company agreeing to a new engine . They also covered a rental for 7 days too while it was in the shop.
I still have 2 seasons of warranty left and think I will have about 90k on te bike when it expires.
I would think about how many miles you might have on the bike at the end of 5yrs and then decide if you need it. If you are a low mileage rider you might want to roll the dice.
If reference to the cost of the warranty there should be wiggle room as it is a profitable option for the dealer when they sell it on top of the kickback that the dealer makes writing your loan thru Hd finance.

I think it is a waste of money. I am way ahead of the game for not purchasing a warranty. The way I look at it, out of all the bikes and cars i have bought without purchases the warranty, I have saved enough money to replace my entire bike if needed. However people who have used them swear by them and the people who never needed to will say its a waste.
