I have spent 22 years in LE including 10 years as a motor. I don't think wearing a black and white helmet even remotely broaches on impersonating a police officer. I say if wearing an Orange or yellow or black and white helmet makes you more visible to the driving public more power to you. Based on the above code it would not be a problem in that state either. I doubt any state has reserved black and white helmets strictly for use by LE. Now if there are other motives then that changes everything. Local guy here rides an ex police bike and wears a black and white 1/2 helmet (we wear 3/4 and modulars) and never has raised a bit of concern.
Well said. It's up to the individual and what their intentions are. For me personally, I would not be comfortable with the combination of the bike AND the helmet. I would feel like 'wannabe' and just doing it for reaction.
I wasn't implying that the OP was trying to impersonate a LEO. I was suggesting that he be careful. Perception is a powerful thing and if perceived incorrectly by the wrong person it could make for a bad day.
I never had a police helmet but often wondered about them.. the straps look like the are a lot more comfortable than most helmets. I would like to find one with the removable face shield/visor.
Curious minds want to know. Be careful with stuff like that. If your bike is white (common for police bikes) then a case can be made in certain situations that you are trying to impersonate a police officer which carries lots of trouble for you. Its a ride thats simply not worth it.
my 2 pennies.
you have a white bike, and wear a white helmet and your "Impersonating a Police officer?" WOW,,,, kind of narrow minded aint we?
