Default 140,000 mile service

Took my 99 FLHT in for the 10,000 mile service today, bike has 139,670 miles on it, asked them to check out the cam chain pads, they found the back one almost gone, so it will be replaced, last time we checked them was at 90,000 miles which was also the first time, we replaced both then..I installed a big bore kit, with 203 cams, 44MM CV Carb at 27,000 miles so I have over 100,000 on them parts. the cams are showing some marks on them, just wear, no pits, or chiping just marks where the rollers touch them on the lobe, so they are going back in..Bike still runs good, has strong pull, and does all that I want, it is of course black, fast color anyway and that is still looking good..I change my oil every 2500 to 3,000 miles with new filter, I run regular harley 20W50 in it year round..I have the local shop do all my services, same mech. every time, he knows my bike and does indeed take good care of it..Just thought I would pass this on, lot of folks ask about what is good and what holds up, maybe this will help them..by the way, the bike does spend 90% of its time on highways, I do not baby it, but then I do not abuse it either..[sm=biker.gif]

Thats good info on the oil.
With the mileage and the type of oil you use shows that Dino oil is OK.

Thanks for the input! I really appreciate it. I was beginning to wonder if I had made a mistake since I wanted a bike I could ride the wheels off of and one that yo trade every year or so.

I retire January 2, 2007. Hope to really start adding the miles. Great news on the reliability of your bike. Sometimes we get caught up in problems that in reality are probably the minority.

Thats some milage to accumulate on one bike.I also hope to keep my present RK and put some serious miles on it.It sure helps in having a good H.D. tech that knows your machine.

I don't care what anybody says, 140K out of an air-cooled two cylinder motor is quite impressive. Thanks for sharing.
