i get the noisy 1st shift like all harleys have this is when your in gear gas it let off the gas and gas it again you will get a noise like a clunk or clang thanks for your reply

It doesn't come with the SE comp stock just FYI. Maybe the dealer changed it but it was not built with it. I don't have any clunks or clatter. I did before I changed the shift linkage. Lots of slop. Shifts are firm and clear now. Not a bit of slop to deal with.

your right the service writer had said it came with se. and the head mech says, no it didn't so maybe i have compensator promblems

While ya got her apart,install a Baker F6F and a 31 tooth pulley.

It is normal to have some "wiggle" in the clutch adjuster, not alot but you can wiggle it. It also may be normal for the noise you get on acceleration as a hard twist of the throttle when you are just coasting would make some noise. but if it is doing it when accelerating, thats another problem. It may be too much slack in the primary chain, you can check by removing the derby cover and using a long thin screwdriver and flashlight to see with you can push the upper part of the chain up and down to see if it is real loose. Some slack is normal, but if it moves more than an inch its too loose. If it is too loose then the self adjuster may not be working.
