Default Searched..no luck! Fitting 09 header to 11 FLHX

There are tons of posts about it, and several that even come out and straight up ask...but I couldn't find one that answered my question!

I have a buddy that is willing to basically give me his 09 stock header and I want to get the CAT off of my 11 to open the sound up. Can I switch the headers? I read that the o2 sensors are different sizes, has anybody came across adaptors for this or a way to sidestep this without dropping $3-400 on PC-V or FM headers?

Any and all advice welcome, thanks for all the input.

They will fit just fine, I did it to mine. as far as the o2 sensors bungs go, u can plug them or use them depending on type of tuner u use.

You will need this to use the o2 sensors off your bike on the 09 head pipe. You cant just not hook up the o2 sensors because it will screw up your computer. Now if you add say a PC V then I think you can do away with the o2 sensors completely. Click the link here http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/produc...utm_medium=cse

Yes the headers will bolt up. You will need to buy 02 sensor cable extenders, as the 02 sensors are up closer to the head on an 09. Your 2011 uses a narrow band sensor. The best advice I can offer is to talk to Jamie at Fuel Moto about a tuner. Call him directly as opposed to emailing. He will offer you his advice, good guys over there at Fuel Moto. Realistically you can get away with changing the pipes only without a tuner, and the 02's will make the necessary adjustments in closed loop mode to maintain the factory AF ratio. If you also change the air cleaner assy however, then you will definately need a tuner. It is the opinion of most however, that our bikes are already way too lean from the factory. I'd run a tuner. Simply put, the pipes will bolt up. Not so simply put, the 02 sensors are different and there are many ways of adapting them to the application. Call Jamie.

Perfect!! Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for.

I'm not ready to go stage 1 yet, just want more sound. I feel plenty of power from the 103, at least for now I'm leaving the intake stock. I'm ordering this kit now, next week I will do the change. Thanks for the assist.

The O2 sensors on your 2011 are heated and smaller in thread size. I don't know what effect the location in the pipe would/could have, probably none. Just keep track of which sensor is plugged in where, as it does matter as to front and rear. Good luck!

Or just buy the FM headpipe and mufflers and you don't need a tuner as long as the airbox stays stock. You get the sound and a cooler running bike.

The 02 sensor adapter kit listed in the Dennis Kirk catalog will do the trick. It lengthens the pigtail and provides the adapters to use the stock narrow band sensors. It works just fine in the 09 head pipe location closer to the head. Lots have done it with no problems.

Namz also makes an adapter to use the small O2 sensors in the 09 pipes.

The Dennis Kirk Kit did the trick! All went together smoothly. I also ordered a set of the torque cones to try to get some of the backpressure back that I had lost going to open slip-ons, but unfortunately they do not fit into stock header pipes due to the header pipe ends being curved inward slightly (I guess to seal better). I have thought about grinding a little out (they almost fit), but I don't have a tool to do it and I haven't taken the time to find one. Who knows, maybe I will get V&H Power Duals before I get around to doing that...(fingers crossed)
