Sick To My Stomach (cruise control)
Hello everyone,
On my 08 FLHRC I replaced my handlebars with the Heritage bars and put different grips on to doll it up slightly. However, now my cruise control doesn't work. When I turn it on the red light comes on but when I try to engage it nothing happens (no green light). Did I do something terribly wrong? It makes me sick to my stomach because I just got the bike last Oct and have ridden it just a few times. OH...I forgot, the yellow engine light comes on and stays on too. I'm sure it's got something to do with the computer detecting something wrong with the cruise though. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Terry

First thing to do since you have the engine light is to check the codes. You may very well find that you have a code for an ABS issue (assuming you have ABS?) which is also messing up your cruise control (i.e. speed sensor code because of a wire problem that you messed up). It's probably a pinched wire or you messed up the brake switch in the brake lever.

This is a common problem for many (including myself) after changing bars if you run your wires internally. I'm not sure if the 08's had the TBW, but if they do and yours has that green connector for the throttle in the bars you can actually pull that apart just enough while pulling it thru the bars to make your cruise not work.
Unfortunately, it requires pulling the wires back out. Your going to want to either eliminate the green clip and splice the wires together or put a piece of shrink tube on it and then try pulling it thru again and hope for the best. That green connector is a PITA. The CVO models don't have the green connector and I'm fairly certain are internally wired, so the MOCO probably acknowledges it don't work internally wiring with that connector very well.
