Default SERT/DYNO Questions

After much research and many hours on this and some lesser forums, I have decided to have the 103 BB stage 2 kit installed on my 09 Ultra. Here is one of my questions. I have purchased the SERT as my fm system. The dealer tells me that after the 500 mile or so breakin period that they will then dyno the engine for the whoppin sum of 450.00 to get it tuned correctly. If this is the case, somebody tell me why they need to do a "custom" map if I have the SERT installed? And why is it so darned expensive? I would think that a dealer that has built all those engines in the past would know almost exactly how to tune with the SERT? Im ol skool and know nothing about fuel injection so thats my excuse for askin this question.,,,,,

The downloaded map is to the get the tuning in the ballpark, have to start somewhere.
I ran a downloaded SERT map for a while until engine work was done, then I had the bike dynoed.

Some shops/builders like to have some mileage on the bike after engine work is done, some dont and will dyno right away.

If you think them charging you $450 for this isn't bad enough, wait till you find out they won't even give you a copy of the custom map that they just made for you that YOU paid for! I'd look around and find a good SERT tuner and have him do it. It will be cheaper and you get a copy of the map.

+1. a canned map gets you close. Custom maps/ dyno time costs a ton because your bike will/should be on the machine for hours making lots of pulls while the map is being tweaked in between. This is also the reason that most dealers want the bike broke in first. Manual says not to exceed 3000 rpm (3500?) for the first 500 miles. That includes dyno pulls to redline.

$450 is pretty high. I usually see around $300. Usually it runs about 3 hours to tune. A good tuner will get it done no matter how long at the same price. Also with the right software you can view the map that was loaded on your bike.

the key is finding a good dyno operator, ive suspected a dealer or 2 of charging for dyno time and only loading canned map.

Oh oh .....Rookie Question, Rookie Question????

What is a SERT??? I have a V&H fuel pak and it doesn't seem to be going the job very well. Would this be a better solution? I have seen different things being talked about in the forum but I don't have a clue what they are, like Xied's or SERT's. Anyone mind explaining???

Sorry if this is the High School forum and I am still in diapers......
