Default Handgrip Replacement on TBW

Howdy folks - is anybody out there aware of a tutorial for replacing handgrips on a Throttle By Wire RGU?

I have a 2011 and my buddy helped me put new grips on my old 2006 but it wasn't TBW.

Thanks -

Tim

one of the easiest mods you will do. but do the left side first as the grip with any design is fixed on the left and then the right so you can match the angle of the design or markings. Just take off the clutch or brake lever clamps and lower the levers out of the way(have to do cause the wires for the controls go through the bracket) then slpit your switch housings and on my left it was glued so I just used an air compressor and nozzel and shoved it under the grip and it seperated the grip from bar. some models are not glued and then it just pulls off. Then to the right side once you split the switch housing slide off the old grip and slide the new one on paying attenion once again to any design alignment then reassemble switch housings and levers.

The throttle by wire was not an issue for me it just stays in the end of the bar awaiting the new grip.

Make sure you insert a piece of cardboard or something close to 5/16in. between the brake lever and housing (near the mirror mount), before you loosen the control housing/brake perch. Otherwise, there's a chance you'll damage the brake light switch ... if that happens, your grip swap just became a lot more expensive. (I use the connecting end of a small wire tie.) There's also a switch for the clutch lever, but shimming it isn't necessary.

Awesome, thank you - but now I feel like a dope. I can't figure out the routing of the wires (I changed from stock 2011 RGU bars to Heritage bars).

I tried to capture the issue via my camera - but to try and explain it, I'm trying to match up the forward control assemply to the switch assembly, but there is a bundle of wires coming from the switch assembly.

I unfortunately don't remember how they looked when they came off - any assistance would be appreciated.

They go thru the brake master cylynder clamp. take the clamp for the levers back off and put the wires in the dent/dimple area under the bars. that is where the wires pass through the clamp.
