Default Elite 3 fitment

Been on jakewilson.com looking for an Dunlop Elite 3 rear tire (per good forum reviews) and the only thing I can find is a 180/65B-16 (81H) which is designated just Elite (not Elite 3). The Elite 3 I see is a 180/60R-16 (80H) but is not showing as an option when looking under specific make/model.

Which Elite 3 is everyone getting for 09 Touring Bikes? And, I couldn't find what the B and R ratings refer to either. Thanks.

Isn't the American Elite and the Elite III basically the same tire?

The B is a bias ply tire and the R is a radial tire. A radial on rear/bias on front is Ok but not recommended to do radial front/bias rear...

Yup but the American Elite has that lettering on the sidewall while you pay a bit more for the H-D Dunlop that has Harley-Davidson on the sidewall...

You are correct on your statement.
Now for some good news is that while I was at Thunder Beach Rally I got to speak to the Dunlop tire rep and he informed me that they are developing the American Elite for pre 09 bikes. He also stated that they will get better milage than the Elite III, my response oh thats great I just installed a set of III's which ran great for me on the trip

I wonder why they don't develope a high load rated radial tire for the baggers? They make them for the GW which has wet/GVW ratings within 20# of a FLHTCU...

Default elite 3 radial

I used the 180-60R-16 Dunlop on the rear of my 09 Ultra. It has a load rating of 992lbs and a speed rating of 130mph. I used a 140-75R-17 Dunlop that is used on the front of new Fatboys. It is a radial with a load rating of 675lbs and a speed rating of 149mph. I am very pleased with the handling and smooth ride of these radials although these are only available in blackwall but that is no problem for me. I have 9000 miles on this combo and have no signs of wear or cupping. I mounted and balanced these myself on my homemade changer and Tusk balancer.
