So i had been thinking of buying some new headpipes, i have some real nice S&S slip ons. They have nice sound but not loud enough. Well i ran into this thread and seen how easy this was. Well i work at a place that has a sheet metal shop in the back, so they cut it open useing the trap door and removed the cat. Well went home and put the pipes on last night. WOW a huge difference in sound, very happy and i saved about 500 bucks. Now to get my air cleaner and my tuner!

You'll be REAL impressed when you see how much cooler, and how much less heat comes from the pipe and engine too

Thanks for putting those pics up of the cat removal. I have the know how but not the tools and wanted to ask what kind of welder you used welding the window back in place.

Used my Millermatic 180 Mig. A Tig would probably be better.
The material is bit of a pain to weld but it isn't rocket science.

Curious, what is the material inside the cat that is removed? Is it just mild steel? I see that it is a waffle like consistancy.
The reason I ask was because not long ago in our area, thieves where going around to car lots and cutting off Cat. Converters from trucks. Supposedly they have some kind of precious metals inside that scrap lots were paying big bucks for.

they do have some precious metals inside and it's tough drilling it out but can be done, no big deal just take your time and run the drill in and out and it breaks up and you can dump it out.i just though it away, but i guess you could save it. what ever way you remove it you should wear a resperator you don't want to inhale any of it. i hooked a shop vac. up to one end of pipe so as to suck it up as i was drilling.
