Default To start or not to start

Every once in a while, when I press the start button, I get a click and nothing else. I immediately press the button a second time, then the starter turns and the bike starts. Any opinions as to what this is? Is it a solenoid, starter, start button? I have a manual, and I will probably do the work myself, just wanted to know what to go after to replace. Thanks.

On my evo that would be another starter relay going bad. On your bike I would first check the ground cable & work my way to the starter looking for loose/corroded connections.

In your starter, there is a copper washer attached to the solenoid. If and when this copper washer gets pitted, it will also cause that to happen. But as flamedfxr said, check the easier things first.

We used to tear old car starters apart and "flip" the washer and put the starter back together. The customer was good for another bunch of years.

Check tightness on battery cables and for corrosion.

+1 on the battery connections.... had this happen to me. Was just about to spend some bucks on a starter, when I discovered the battery ground needed tightening.
