My biggest problem with riding in the rain is just breakin out the raingear and suiting up. After that's done, all is good. Without a doubt, sunny clear weather is better but rain aint going to stop me.
We also take road trips anywhere from 1,000 to 5,000 miles & have encounter rain & snow. I "ALWAYS" carry my rain gear. We go over to the coast & you never know what you'll run into. That's usually a 500 mile ride. If I get caught out in the rain I'm ready but I'm not going to just ride in the rain for the fun of it.
Do not start off in the rain. So not sure how to answer since I have done it a lot. Real pain and slows me way down. Unlike a car I have not a clue what to do if I were to slide out in a turn on a bike.
When I buy tires I assume I will be riding in rain, as I always do. I prefer Metzler ME 880's. I take the time to gear up, and always have plastic milk bags for inside my boots. I also prefer to wear polarized sunglasses if it is not too dark, I find the glasses work well for me. I also know to close the vents on my helmet. I have ridden in torrential downpours for a good solid 6 hours or more, and usually wear a one piece rainsuit, although, I think a good 2 piece would be much easier to gear up in. I also have flock lined rubber glove which work great, if I remember to bring them, but in a pinch I also carry latex surgical gloves XL, to slide over my leather gloves.
Ridden in the rain many times and many miles. Always carry my rain gear. But the cleanup of the bike is a real pain in the ***. Maybe I'm just too **** about keeping a clean bike. Prefer not to ride when its raining for that reason.
Just got home from a 3 day weekend, rained the last 300 miles home. Riding a RKC the shield helps but visibility SUCKED. Don't do it just to do it but I won't let it stop me either.

Me too...which is why I wear Goretex gear. No need to guess if it will rain and stop to change into portable sauna (I mean, rainsuit) before it starts pouring. For really hot weather I have a mesh jacket that has a goretex outer shell that can be zipped on and off.
