So who actually rides in the rain?

Like Boogaloodude said...... around here in the Puget Sound area we would hardly ride at all if we didn't ride in the rain. I've been riding in the rain for years and most of that by choice. My bike is my multipurpose vehicle, commuting, recreation and mental therapy (no psycho analyst for me!!!). :-)

it's ok once you get going, but the thought of it makes me reach for the car keys. In town where there's loads of traffic i'll usually go for it, because being stuck in a car in traffic is worse than being on a bike in the rain.
And i agree there are times when i quite enjoy riding in the rain, just as long as i have my wet weather gear on.

I will ride in the rain when I get caught in it...or if it is a road trip (where for some reason, I always seem to run into rain)...but do I wake up, look out the window and say "Oh goodie...it's pouring...let's go riding"...no.
I live in Georgia, where 80% of the driving public seems to lose half their ability to operate a motor vehicle when it rains...so I usually avoid it if I can.

It doesn't rain much in the Phoenix area. When we do get a storm, they tend to be doozies, but don't last long. Having said that, I won't leave the house on my bike if it's raining. If I'm out and it starts to rain - oh well. I don't mind riding in it, I just hate the hours it takes to clean the bike up later.

Riding in the rain is not the most pleasant way to spend time on a motorcycle but it is unavoidable at times. You should be prepared for it with the proper rain gear, your tires should be in good shape, and you should be mentally prepared for it. Wet roads require smoother inputs to control the bike and you may have to contend with reduced visibility for everyone. Staying safe in the rain requires more concentration and more skill.
Personally I do not seek rain days to ride, but I do not avoid riding when the weather turns wet.
