Default Rear Brake Light Switch

More info to my fellow forum members, my 09 ultra classic rear brake light switch took a dump. Got it replaced, was told that this is happening on more and more bikes. Some 2011 bikes are doing the same thing. Must be a cheap manufactered part. Or maybe just a bad batch of parts. Depress your rear brake lever and check to make sure brake lights are turning on. Want everyone to be safe out there.

An on onboard wire fire was the result of my switch failure. Dealer covered everything.

Had the '03 switch replaced once when the brakelights stayed on constantly.

I check mine constantly, but thanks for the heads up.

Yeah, mine went out too. Cruise control would not go off and rear brake light would not work all the time. It's a $20 dollar presure switch. A dealer told me he sees this in one out of three bikes.

Same here. Some brake fluid apparantly began leaking onto the switch and it caught fire. Dealer replaced the entire system including lines and switch. All covered so it didn't cost me anything. But I'll be keeping a close eye on that switch from now on.

Mine's failed twice. Once the brake light stayed on all the time and the other time it wouldn't come on at all.

Mine failed back in October. Checking the brake light is part of my daily pre-flight checks. It failed during a ride. The brake light was stuck in the "on" mode. Disconnected one of the wires and tie wrapped it as not to burn it on the header pipe and went to the closest dealer and got a new one. Installed it when I got home and bled the brakes. All better now...

Sounds like they need to rethink that part.

Mine quit 2 weeks ago. Got a new one at auto zone. $9. It's a common brake switch. 1/8 pipe threads 2 prongs. Part number was something like RB401. Google it, there's a good bit of cheaper ones out there just gotta find the part number. Probably most are made by the same company.
