I just hooked up my j&m amp to my stock speakers (rokkers will be here tues) and I have no sound. My ground is to my battery should I have put it on a bolt somewhere?

Try the ground at the front of the battery box.

The negative terminal on your battery is the best ground you have, its where the ground originates. Is there an indicator lamp of any kind on the amp,and is it lit? Is there an in line fuse to the amp? Are you sure all your connections are right? Also is there a remote wire to turn the amp on? Double check everything, you are probably over looking something.

It is bad practice to tie the ground all the way back to the battery. I do not think you will find anyone that does professional installations for a living recommending that. The directions for the amp do not say to run ground back to battery. Make the ground connection to a frame bolt, making sure to remove paint around the head.

I would check the remote power wire, the wire that tells the amp the bike is turned on. Sounds like the amp doesnt know when to turn on.

FYI,
Grounds should be as short as possible

Eliminates EMI,humming, etc, whatever you want to call it.

The ground should always be as short as possible. Take it to your crash bar or the frame in front of the tank. Did you check your hi-low output button. A lot of people forget to push the button.

Thanks guys, when I get out of bed I'll go out and check the fuse in the power wire and change the ground and see what happens.

Where is the hi-low output button located?

It's on the back of the radio which switches the input from speakers to RCA. It's a small little button.
