Default Florida to Memphis Gas Shortage?

Leaving tomorrow from Panama City heading back home to Memphis. Anyone in route know of any issues or gas shortages on that route? Birmingham, Montgomery, etc areas.

Don't know about actual gas shortages but some co-workers of mine just finished a job in Decatur (north of Birmingham) and they said there's a lot of damage from the recent tornado's and many businesses are still closed due to power outages. That might be part of what you may be hearing about. They can't pump fuel if they don't have power. I've heard that gas prices around Orlando are pushing $5/gal. Anyone know if that's true?

I was just in the Orlando area, paid $4.19 for premium. Panama City is in a different part of FL, don't think the price should be too much different. But as Intrepid 175 said, probably a lot of gas stains closed due to no power because of the recent bad weather. Fill up before you leave, and buy gas everytime you get to about 1/2 tank to be safe.

Top off a half hour before passing thru the area and that should get you by.

There is a station in the Orlando area that has been over $5 for a month or so, but this is located right at the airport, where the owner takes advantage of people turning in rentals. I believe at last check the prices at the Suncoast station were like 5.69 a gallon for regular. This is the only one I know of, the rest of the state is somewhere around the 4-4.25 area.

I actually saw a report (about price gouging)on this station a month or so ago, and it was really crazy to watch the people that would pull up to get fuel, and they had absolutely no idea what the prices were, even though they were posted. The person doing this talked to several customers (all were oblivious to the price), I'll mention one, he asked the driver what he thought about the price. The driver looks at the pump and says, four-eleven, that's a little expensive but not outrageous. The reporter looks in amazement at the driver and said where do you get that price from. The price at that time was 5.39, apparently someone had pumped 4.11 gallons of gas prior.
