Progressive Monotube Install
Well I'm in the process of installing my new monotubes. Gotta say this has been a bit more involved of an install than I first thought. After tearing down the whole front end with a run to the store for a 1 3/8" wrench for the top of the forks. Kind of makes me wish that they listed wrench sizes needed for teardowns in the service manual. In the process of this just created a new simple DIY tool to hold the fork tube. Took a piece of 2x4 punched a 1 5/8" hole in it. Which FYI is the diameter of the fork tube. Then took the table saw and made a cut opening up one side of the hole i just drilled on center. Then drilled two 3/8" holes for carriage bolts, one on each side of the hole a couple inches either side. I then drilled matching holes in a piece of 1/4" flat bar steel for a backer plate, slapped it into the vice and slipped in the fork tube and then tighten the carriage bolts gently.... Instant fork tube holder for about $5 bucks worth of material that works better than Harley's version. I'll put up some pictures of it tomorrow if anyone is curious.
