i have great ideas all the time but let me know what you think of this--the valves use push rods WHY with the tec we have now i think the push rods and timeing belts--chains ect are a thing of the past--WE HAVE SERVO MOTORS,yes very small and powerfull servos -brushless servos- wireless servos--all we need is a transmiter on the crank and a reciver in the wireless servo--there thats it--WHAT YOU THINK

Not a bad idea... Less moving parts, cam chain tensioner problem solved, less weight, more precise control, and easily tunable via computer. Not sure why nobody has tried it yet...

I thought of this long ago, and thought about how many times those servos would have to work, on fails, and you could drop a valve into a piston, but if you could get a servo that wouldn't fail after millions of cycles you would be on to something.

Formula 1 engines use actuators on their valves. I believe they are pneumatic, and those engines turn 10,000+ rpms. Of course, the only have to last for one race before the engine is torn down.

Why not a Solid State Electric switch controlling a Fast acting Electric Acuator? Change lift and duration of your valves with your computer.

Someone (Saab, I think) has been experimenting with a cam-less engine for quite some time. The thinking is that with a simple software change you can have either a fire-breathing performance motor or a mild-mannered economy motor. The cost is, of course, astronomical.

Lots of possibilities. Solenoid/servo operated valves that don't need springs. Valves that are entirely outside the combustion cylinder so they eliminate the possibility of valve/piston contact. Rotary valves, etc. All it takes is a good idea, time & money.
