LOL! I ride with folks weekly that scare the crap out of me that have never heard or practiced threshold braking or trail braking. It's always, surprise, curve, look out.
I agree threshold braking with HD ABS is kinda unsettling with that pulse clanging thing happening.

A really good suspension helps to prevent the clanging thing from happening as much. If the wheel stays planted, the ABS doesn't kick in unless it's REALLY necessary.

Once I got my Ohlins from Howard, the ABS stopped bugging me.

Not to long ago, I remember when Harley first offered ABS on the touring bikes. Most Harley people said ABS doesn't belong on a motorcycle. Now I bet you couldn't get them to own one without ABS. Similar thing happened with fuel injection.

JohnnyC,

You are absolutely right. In controlled circumstances, a skilled rider or driver can possibly outbreak the ABS system. Possibly. But in those emergency situations where even half a second is critical, the computer works the same way, over and over and over.

ABS is just a little and very well worthwhile insurance policy.

My last 2 Limiteds had ABS, until last year I wasn't convinced. Riding home in the rain, following 2 vehicles, a truck in front of the car in front of me decided to teach the car a lesson for tailgating by locking his brakes up. The car in front of me came to a sudden stop on the wet road and I applied the brakes.....

I was sure I was goiing to hit that car in the rear. While my mind was looking for anywhere else to go and simultaneously planning my long term disability, the bike came to a stop 3 inches behind the cars back bumper. I don't reacll any tire slip or feeling that the front was sliding away, it just stopped.

ehans,

I was thinking more about the issue when cornering. I've watched the safety videos enough to know you have to pick a straight line, hopefully a clear one with solid road.

I'm convinced. I was at the dealer today checking out some of the new and used bikes. I will not buy another ride without it!
