Ultra Vs Road Glide

Ultra Vs Road Glide
After many years of great service my 99 Electraglide was taken from me. She had 113,000 and never had a problem with her, till that teenager took a left turn in front of me and now she is totalled (I got off without a scratch)...
Ok so now for my question.. I NEED to replace her soon before I go crazy...LOL
I wanted to find out if anyone has ridden both the batwing and the fixed fairing bike and what their thoughts were. I am most likely looking for another used one, around a 2002-06 and looking to upgrade to the ultra classic or roadglide with tourpack and all the bells an whistles..
Any advice would be appreciated.

Well, I'm partial...
If I could recommend, I'd say whichever you get, look for an '09 or later used bike rather than the earlier. Not that the old touring bikes weren't work horses, but the new touring bikes w/the new frames/wider rear ends/better handling/heavier payload sure are nice bikes.

My opinion will be biased. I vote for the Road Glide. I have rode behind the bat wing and the shark nose and I just like the Road Glide's fixed fairing better, many others prefer the bat wing. With the Road Glide, the gauges and controls are further away. You will get a little more wind (buffeting) with the Road Glide, but I like some wind. If you have never ridden a bike with a fixed fairing, you will find it different at first. Some folks just cannot get used to it.
Good luck on your search. Glad to hear you weren't injured in the accident.

I rode my '98 Ultra 65,000 miles before selling her. My 2000 Fltrsei just turned 87,000 this week. Both were/are great for what they do but there are differences.
The Ultra offered the best weather protection because the windshield is so much closer to the rider.
The Road Glide is the best handling big bike I've ever ridden on windy days.
I'm 6'3" and I seem to fit better on the Road Glide because the fairing/windshield is farther out in front of the rider, ( a good big man's bike.)
My wife preferred the Ultra, ( of course she slept alot! )
Thers's a start..
Hope this helps..

Don't have an definite answer for you. A lot of good suggestions above...Renting the RG and UC then decide afterwards.
Only recommendation is I would go with a used '09 with low mileage by saving $$$ or get a brand new one with your favorite color and keep it for a long time. Only thing is the payment book which sucks, but to keep yourself sane and happy for many years to come.
Good Luck,
Thorey

Owned an '07 SG that I sold in November '09.
I now ride a '10 Road Glide Custom.
I rode both a '10 SG and the '10 RG one right after another to compare. I picked the RG for handling.
The SG/batwing provides more protection from the elements though.
You'll have to ride them and decide for yourself really. No one can tell you which will meet your specific wants/needs.
