Pinging on a 2011 Ultra Limited
400 miles, completely stock. Ping consistently at 3000 rpm. Live and ride in mile high Colorado. I assume its ping as sounds like car keys dangling on gas tank up front. Part of the break in? Does it go away? Dealer says bring it in, said I may have to buy a air filter or sport tune or some crap.

Your using high octane gas I take it?
Possible cause could be you Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and or faulty sensors. The ECU determines the mixture of air and fuel distributed to the combustion chambers based on information from several sensors (temperature, air pressure (altitude), throttle position and RPM). The ECU uses maps to determine the proper air fuel mixture. If less fuel is sent than what the engine needs then temperatures go up resulting in pre-ignition (knock or ping).

I know I'm in the minority here, but with only a pair of slip ons and a K&N filter (with stock backing plate) I've never had an issue with my '09 FLHX and I have 29,000 miles on her. The bike runs flawless. No decel popping ever, no over heating (very warm, but not over heating) and nary a ping. Guess I'm lucky.

My 07 did the same thing for 16,000 miles & my buddies still does the same thing & he has over 25,000. At 16,000 I had muffler,A/C & remap done which stopped it. My new bike has been great so far. I'm not doing any mods to this one. Like my buddy says "That's What the Warranty is For"!!!!!!
