Default 2012 Radio Issues

So Harley says that the earthquake in Japan will cause them to be short on radios for the 2012 touring models. They are already saying some of the models will come standard with the 103 inch motor, but they are also thinking about a few other ways to handle this. First, they would leave an opening for the radio, and would then have it installed by your dealer at no charge once they are available (up to 6 month wait). For this inconvenience they are thinking about offering to extend the bike's entire warranty up to one full year and maybe even throw in a GPS unit.

I received this info via the HD Advisory Panel Survey that I partake in each month. They wanted to know how much all of these offers would entice me to buy a 2012 bike, to which I replied 'extremely likely.' So, for those of you that don't get the survey...how do you feel about the potential offer(s)?

I'd do it for the GPS.

Would have to see what other features the bike has and what the trade in value looks like at the time. Would probably wait though, until the radio situation was resolved, Already have the GPS.

If I were in the market for a 2012 (And I am not) I would buy it without a radio for the GPS. Eventually the radio would be installed and all would be good. If not the GPS then an additional 2 years of warranty would make me feel good about the purchase of a bike without the radio.

Extended warranty + GPS + free install when radio becomes available?

Hell, that's a no brainer if you ask me.

The issue is over a micro chip that controls the display. Can't they sub that component out to another supplier for the time being?

They said that 60% of these types of components come from Japan and the specific one(s) that are needed aren't currently unavailable. Must be pretty specific!

I have one question: Which GPS are they talking about?
The one that's in the HK radio (which isn't very handy or useful from what I've read)
or the Garmin GPS which everybody would like to have?

I think its great, the hd radio is a piece of crap. First thing I did on my 2011 is take the radio out. a $150 Sony is 10x better than the overpriced HD radio!!
