Default Replacing that worthless air temp guage

Hey guys

The sheer uselessness of that air temp gauge on my Ultra is nagging at me. Two questions for the group:

- anything else besides an oil temp gauge that can go in that hole and be useful?

- How much of a PITA is it to install said oil temp gauge?

I had the air temp gauge then the electronic compass and it quit so. I installed the oil temp gauge works good looks great and works even better. Very easy to install take average person one hour start to finish.

The oil temp guage is both easy to install and useful, HD should do away with the air temp guage, who uses it anyway.

Air temp guage is useless, oil temp guage is useless, ( the motor will shut down before overheating,) so what else is there?

funny thing, I replaced the stock air temp with an oil temp gauge, then I added an external digital temp gauge, Zilla pet reptile thermometer w/probe
http://www.zilla-rules.com/products/...terrariums.htm ,
so I could associate the effects of ambient temp on the oil temp. Double side tape to my front brake master cyl, fits perfectly, and ran the probe through the fairing down to the front brake manifold between the forks, catches fresh air for an acurate temp instead of inside the fairing temp.

The ECM is programmed to shut the bike down when the head temp reaches somewhere around 310 degrees, and will not restart until it cools down from there. Sensor is located on the front head, left back side.

ECM adjusts fuel mix based on engine temp but will also shut it down if the temps get dangerously high.

Nuttin' crazy about it!
