I'm still trying to learn my EG's sounds. It's an '05, FLHTI. When I shut down (especially after a shorter ride) I get a little "whistle" from the front of the engine. Is that and EFI thing or something else? I had thought maybe exhaust gasket leak at the front jug, but my dealer said he checked and the flange nuts were torqued properly. Any opinions?

 

Hello. This sounds like the same noise I get when I shut off my '05 at times. It is most likely from the air filter. I was told it's from the engine when it is pulling air in during the intake stroke. This is normal and nothing to worry about. If you have the Stage I air cleaner, it's much louder. Good Luck

 

I got the same thing on my 06 StreetGlide. Only difference is I don't worry about it. I just add it to the list of Harley sounds. [sm=forgetit.gif]

You guys have better ears than I do apparently. I've never heard the whistle you are talking about on my 05 FLHTI. But then, I can never hear what my wife is saying either!

 

I am not sure if it's coming from the breather. I think you said when you shut it down you hear it. Right? I have heard a "whirring" noise coming from my SG when I shut it off. I hear it when the key is just turned off and the engine is not turning and burning anymore. I am not sure what it is............thought it was the fuel system or the stereo. Hmmm.
