Default Why are aftermarket parts so expensive?

Don't take this as a crying post it's an honest question. I ran oval track dirt cars for years. Sure the parts were expensive but almost all aftermarket bike parts are more money then car parts even know the amount of material is a lot less and the technology is about the same why is that?

Relatively small production runs and an enthusiastic group of consumers that will pay the higher costs would be my guesses.

They are only expensive because you don't have enough money.

in some cases aftermarket is more $ then dealer parts..people hear HD and $$ automaticly pops up..ever get a higher quote on a rusty old car part at a u pull junk yard, then a new dealer part..just idiots trying to pull a fast one..i always look around find a cheaper part on line.no one is gouging me.
