I keep about 40 psi in both tires on my '09 Ultra Classic. There was 4/32 tread at 15,000 miles when I mounted new Limited wheels and a new set of OEM tires.

okay, someone says 36/40 and others recommend 40/40. is this increase caused by inflation?

A higher the tire air presure equals a little increase gas mileage and a little increase in tire wear mileage at the scarafice of less traction. On a street bike I want the best traction possible, I'd follow the 36/40 like the manufactors recomend.

I fill my tires according to what the tire says on the side.

I rolled the bike out a few weeks ago after winter storage and the front was at 38 and the rear had lost air and was at 26. I checked before hitting the road yesterday, 2 weeks later, and it was back down to 26.

I found my leak! I checked the rear tire's valve and it spun around 2 times before tightening up.

Jerry,

The back shows normal wear - the front is my concern. Wear on the front seems a little odd in that the forward part of the tread is worn more than the back part of the tread. Looking at each portion of the tread (between the rain groves) shows more rubber towards the back and less towards the front, which creates bumps. New American Elites should be delivered today.
