Default wheel bearings on a 2009 FLHX

I'm almost at 11,000 miles on my 2009 FLHX (Street Glide) and had my front brake pads changed. When the dealership changed the pads (my dime) they said the front wheel bearings were bad and they replaced them under warranty.

I ride home and now I hear "tick, tick, tick, tick, tick..." beween 45-55 mph. Loud enough I heard it over the radio.

This is on straight roads.

Ugh, any idea what this can be?

It is possible to jack new wheel bearings during installation?

Also, how can I tell if they are bad (anything visual to look for)?

Thanks for any info/thoughts.

What ever it is, take it right back to the dealer and let them ride it, hear it and check it out. Don't mess around.

+1 on what carpetride said. New Bearings can be damaged installing them.

I would bet on the new brake pad installation causing the noise.

Is there something I should do? Meaning, keeping riding? Something to check/look for?

The dealership did say that initially the new pads will take some time to "set" to the rotors since the rotors, in all likehood, are not perfecting straight. *shrug*

Thanks.

You can stress or even lock up the bearings if you don't press them in right. If the pressing plate has a rasied surface to push on the outer race and the 2nd bearing contacts the spacer if you keep pressing it will stress the bearing, lesson learned the hard way I wasted 2 bearings

Since you paid for the parts and service I would suggest you let the dealer correct what ever is causing the ticking noise. It's difficult to diagnose from here.

tick, tick, tich sounds to me like they jacked up your new wheel bearings, those can cause a locked front wheel(not highly likley but possible) get it back to them quickly.

Thanks everyone. Since my 10k service things have been going the wrong way for me and my SG. First was front brake "challenges" and now this. It's been a frustrating month for me and my bike.

Any other thoughts, keep 'em coming.

It shouldn't be that way! Sorry you are having problems so soon. It's very unusual for wheel bearings to fail so soon. You might want to try another Dealer. If you have a jack to put it on, get it off the floor and turn the front wheel. You should have some brake drag, but not so much it won't turn a couple rotations before stopping. See if you can hear the ticking with the weight off. Good Luck!!
