Default Can't Separate upper leg from lower leg

I posted this in the suspension tech forum yesterday and haven't seen anything yet.
I am putting chrome lower legs on my 06 Road Glide. I have the forks off the bike and have removed the clip from the top of the lower fork. I drained the oil and left the drain plug off so the forks would slide easier. Manual says to use the forks like a slide hammer to get the seal out. Been doing that but it's not working. I put the fork in a vise and used a sledge hammer and 2X4 but it's still not moving. I tried a razor to try and separate the seal from the side of the lower fork, still not coming out.
Am I missing something on separating the forks?

did you remove the 6mm allen bolt inside bottom of slider?
That is the rate limiting step in the exchange..Buy new allen bolts since the originals sometimes get wacked.

easier to separate them while on the bike......now you will have to hold the upper section in a padded vise and use the slide hammer method on the bottom section. the lower section slides off from the bottom. put the hammer down!!!!! and yes, assure that the bolt is removed from the bottom of the fork.

This is correct, put 1 leg back in the trees and tighten. Rinse and repeat, lol.

Thats how I do mine . Make sure you get all new seals and both sets of screws also. If you dont have a slide hammer slide an old seal over the new one and use a rubber mallet to set new seal in place.

Hmmmmm, I missed the part about removing a bolt from the bottom. I'll give that a try. Yeah, yeah, I know, "Read the Manual". Thanks guys.

Just needed a little bit of liquid wrench on the metric bolt and it came out.
