Going to Vegas!! HD Rental
I'm flying to Las Vegas in a few weeks for temporary duty. I've never been in that area so I thought I'd take a days leave and rent a bike from the local HD shop.
I've already got a Street Glide reserved and plan to see the Hoover Dam. Any more suggested sites or favorite biker places???
Appreciate the insight.

Me and the girlfriend were down in the fall with another couple. Rented form Las Vegas HD. 2 Ultras. We did the Hoover Dam on the way to the Grand Canyon. Hoover Dam was cool but not alot to do there. The ride to the Canyon was nice...lots of Interstate driving basically but nice all the same. Did the Route 66 thing to cross one more off the list. Ask at the dealer, they had lots of suggestions for routes. Ride Safe.

We did this the day after our wedding. Riding to Hoover Dam was ok. The dam itself was awesome. The highlight of our trip, however, was riding through the Valley of Fire. It's a bit north of Vegas, not too far away. It was spectacular. See here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8776816...7614677804488/

its been a few years... but as best my memory serves me...take route 15 north out of vegas..... get off highway and head east in "Valley of Fire"....follow til the end, road comes to a Tee..brings you to lake Meade.. now here's where it gets tricky..you have to turn left and head north for a few minutes to the next town to fuel up or there's a chance you won't make the loop... then turn around and head south riding through the desert with the lake off to your left, very scenic, follow down to Hoover Dam...... nice day ride
can't remember which HD i rented from out there but they were really helpfull with maps and routes and advice
p.s. the picture above is from Valley of Fire

Red rock canyon just west of Las Vegas off the Blue Diamond Highway is a great ride also. It's a State Park. Just remember that it gets cold out in the desert after the sun goes down. Rented a bike a few years back. Left the city in the afternoon when the temperature was 118 degrees F. Tee shirt weather for sure. The night temps fell in the desert to high 40s. Rolled back into the city at 11P.M. and the over nigh temperature in the city was still 90 degrees. If your going far out after dark take a jacket along. Also the stars in the desert sky are incredable.

Rented at LVHD each of the past 3 springs. All good experiences. Have been to Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire. Both great and closeby.
If you have more time, Grand Canyon South Rim is a must...stay at the El Tovar Hotel...take old RT 66...visit Oatman, Kingman & Williams, AZ on the way. Lake Havasu at havasu City is great. IMO, for these destinations you need more than a day.
