This is true for most 407R tires. However, some are cupping along the edge's. My 09 EGC had the same problem. Both front and rear were cupping. The Dealer changed both under warranty at close to 12K miles. The 407R on my 2010 RK is wearing even on the edges. I run the same psi in this bike as the 09. 40 psi!
I'm wondering is there a better tire that will give the same mileage as the Dunlop 407?

This is my first bike and I didn't have any idea about the cupping issue. After measuring the wear and finding I had over 5/32 nd tread left I had decided to do exactly as you stated to tough it out. The 2 one inch + long cracks in the side walls next to the flat area of the tread changed my mind. One crack was on the left side and one on the right side directly across from each other. I don't think that is normal. I learned a lot from reading this forum. This was my first thread to start and it was mostly very interesting. Even picked up a couple of drive by shooters.

Its a normal sound. 2 fixes I reccomend. 1 Mufflers Monster ovals are a good choice. Or simply just turn up the radio. out of heaaring range out of mind.

2010 Limited -- Just completed the 10,000 mile check. The rear tire measured 7/32". The manufacturer lists the new tread depth at 10/32". By measurement I must have a lot left. Just noticed a mild roar when leaning into turns. The Metzler ME880's on my old '01 Ultra roared much much worse.

My Ultra is a 2008, so I run the older tire which easily go 15K. But my 2008 Street Bob has the new touring tire D407 on it. I didn't know there was any problems, but I think on a bike that only weighs 625lb, I will replace that tire due to age before anything else.

I had the same thing happen to my front tire and at 10000 mile they replaced it, said the tire had a recall. The rear tire I just turned over 19000 and still have 3/32 tire left but will buy one soon.

18K on the rear tire of my 10 Ultra. No roar in turns and better than 50% of the tread left.

Thumbs up

18000 miles and still have more miles left on my tires. I pull a trailer and ride 2 up. No problems with tires.

That is it is worn in a wedge shape between the cuts. It is worn thin at one cut and is much thicker at the adjacent cut. The tire is a Dunlop D407 NW 180/65 B16 81H Also the center of the tread is worn flat like the pressure was low. It has never been run low. Looking for ammunition when I take it to dealer. I have seen scalloping problems with the 2009 models posted on here, but not the 2010. Bike was built in 2009 so I guess it could be part of the 2009 issue.
Normal noise from tires with that kind of miles, the front will also do this when cornering. Not an issue, but if it is an issue for you change the tire and it will be quiet for awhile, but you are wasting your money.
