If you have an 09 Ultra go get it corrected now. I went through this. I think that HD knows about the problem but a recall is way to obvious. If you don't want to take it in get some alcohol (not for drinking) and clean the ECM contact both male and female and the injector connectors and for that matter anything else. Use some dielectric grease on the connections when you reconnect. Problem is solved. I just went after my deal. Acted like I was nuts, told them to look it up I was sure a TSB or equiv out there. Thanks to this forum I had ammunition when I took it in. I had to disconnect and reconnect the ECM on the road, Thankfully it did not happen the morning of the 27th in North Alabama when we headed out in that mess for Thunder Beach. Happened the next morning. 17K on it..
My '11 did it with 1100 miles on the clock....the dealer knew exactly what I was talking about when I called and took it in. They checked it out, everything was tight they put dialectic grease and said they hoped it fixed it, it had fixed a lot of them but they thought the problem was fixed..mine was the first '11 they had seen do it. Then it happened to a guy on here on a demo ride, that bike had 62 miles on it.
My Harley dealer said the MOCO had a fix but since my showed no codes they couldn't replace any parts. They said it had something to do with the ECM ports....hopefully mines fixed but with the frickin' rain I've only been able to ride it 300 miles since I got it worked on
It is the corrosion setting up between the male and female contacts at the connector interfaces. Soon as I can get my wife to go through HER filing system I will note what the service information stated aside from cleaning and applying dielectric grease to the connections.
Hmmm bringing my bike in for 1k service. Wonder if dealer will look at this if I ask? No symptoms yet other than it seems to be taking a couple of secs longer to crank when cold?
Well if you don't have the symptoms you may want to wait until your next scheduled service or you might mention that you've heard about a problem and see what they do.
