Question Aluminum Wheel Cleaning ?

I'm in the process of giving my Road King a deep cleaning. As I was cleaning the rims last night I just couldn't seem to get the blotches off of the aluminum.

Is there a special cleaner I can us to clean these rims?

I've used neverdull, FLITZ metal polish and recently, Mother Aluminum MAG Cleaner.

I'll stick with the Mothers, they all take a lot of elbow grease, but the mothers has worked the best for me so far.

For Stubborn marks on the back rim, I've used the Mothers with 000 steel wool and then followed up with another application of Mothers with a micro fibre towel and been happy with the results.

Mothers works the best for me. It just takes a lot of elbow grease.

This drove me so crazy I bought chrome wheels with nine big, easy to clean spokes. Problem solved. Unless you clean them daily it's almost impossible to avoid what you're experiencing. Another alternative to consider is chroming or powder coating your existing wheels. Good luck. Don't let it make you crazy. Just enjoy riding and keep them as clean as you can.

I fought this for a long time in years past. A few years ago I finally just sent my wheels (nine spoke) off to Chromeprosplating.com. They are in TX, and they did a great job. End of trying to clean the wheels, now it's just spray off and dry. Too simple. More time for riding. They did both wheels for $550. It's been a while ago, so prices might have changed, but their work is great. No chips, peeling, or flaking. Much better than Harley's chrome wheel. (I say this cause I have a buddy that bought the HD wheels, and within two years they were chipping and peeling.) Just another option for you if you get tired of going through the "clean my wheels" drill.

I solved the problem by buying the chrome Limited wheels. No more elbow grease required.

I did the same thing. They were new take-offs at time of purchase. Gotta good deal from another rider.

I have a stock 2005 road King with aluminum wheels. Do the stock wheels have a clear coat on them? I haven't rried polishing them because I assumed they had a coating. They do look pretty bad.
