I just put Rush slipons on the stock headpipes and it doesn't sound weak or crappy at all. <shrug>

I think people are being a little "sensational" when it comes to this topic.
Exactly. My 2011 was pretty nice stock, I only swapped pipes because I wanted fishtails. Now with the Vance & Hines fishtails (glorified straight pipes), it sounds great. It isn't quite as loud as if the cat was missing, but it by no means resembles a goldwing. If you think it does, your hearing is already shot.

+1 on VH fishtails. Actually prefer the inverted look they to them too. Keeps me from squishing them backing into a curb.

all 2010 and 2011 Harleys have cats no matter where you bought it. Bought my FLHTCU in Fla and read a HD corperate letter to dealer about the cats. They all have them 2010 and newer. Don't know what you saw but it wasn't 2010 or 2011....

No myth here. My 2010 UC (non Kalifornia bike) had the cat in the header collector near the tranny. Jerked that worthless pos cat out at 600 miles. Runs better, cooler and improved stock pipe sound.

Hey John - did you take it to a shop? If so did you take the whole bike or did you take off the pipes and bring them in by themselves? I'd like to get this done too...

Thanks,
Tim

Even without the cat in mine, I can feel the heat off the engine tonight while riding and it was only in the 70's. I can't imagine the heat on one with the cat still in. As far as stock pipe sound.......singer sewing machine is the best way for me to describe.....
