Default Question about compression I think mines too low.

Been running my new engine build for about 400 miles even had it dynoed. seems to be working ok but isn't what i was thinking for power. So i checked compression. It read 165 psi and thats low so i went and bought a new tester just incase.Well 165 again.I was shooting for 190 psi.Does anyone know what there 103'' motor is running.Heck i think stock engine is 180 psi.Im hoping that i can loose the .045 gasket and go to .030 to raise it.But then im worried about the tune,Man what to do?????????Please need advice

Let it break in more before you do anything, to make sure the rings are well seated. How did you break it in, easy or reasonably hard? The .030 gasket will help a little, less in actually raising comp, but more in getting the squish right. Did you figure out what the static comp was before you did the build? If you want to raise the comp you'll need to shave the heads a little plus the thinner head gaskets.

My 103 is at 195psi, that was the target when we assembled it. It was at 170 when we pulled it apart, about 2000 miles after becoming a 103. Never really ran the way I thought it should.

I'd give it a 5,000 mile break in be4 I panicked. If after 5,000 miles then I'd look at my options.

I used a compression calculator to do this build and my static should be 9.8 and corrected at 9.3 with the andrews 26h cams.Thats at 188 psi. With 165 psi that reads 8.2 and thats too low.Im going to run it for awhile like i said its working well but it lacks the power i thought it would have.anyone know of a good online compression calculator.

Those are pretty mild cams, you might be expecting too much. Bigboyz has some good calculators on their website, try that.

400 miles, your rings have seated as much as they ever will. More time won't seat them better, my opinion anyways.

Yep, it won't get any better. Try a leak down test.

This website has more calculators than I've found anywhere else. Good ones, too!! Enjoy!!
