Default Do you really know what gear your in?

Thought about this today. Sometimes I have no clue what gear I'm in. Usually when I'm downshifting. Shifting up doesn't really matter because I go by the RPM's of the motor, but when I'm slowing down I usually have to get to neutral to know where I'm at.

Anyone else?

I guess I never really gave it any thought.
When you come to a stop, click down until it won't go anymore.
If you don't have to stop, click up or down until the motor is happy.

Maybee I'm not sure what your asking.

I count gears like rounds out of a .40 cal magazine...a carry over as an IPSC competitor for many years. Can't help it.

I count the gears probably 80% of the time.

Most times no, I just go by sound and how it pulls. All these questions about when to shift to what gear I find a little baffling. It's simple, if it sounds like it needs another gear, give it one. If it sounds like it's in to high a gear, take one.

I have thought about before but don't worry about it. The one way I knew was with my 07 because of the 5th gear whine.

I did when I first bought mine. The only real time I get forget what gear is when I am in sixth. First bike with a 6 speed tranny.
