road king police model questions
Hi everyone. I have had a 98 FXD for a couple years now and love it. The only problem is when my wife goes along on longer rides we could use a little more room. We have been looking at Road Kings and found a 1998 Road King police model with 11,000 miles for $8400. My questions are would this be a good choice and is this a good price? Also what is different about a police model and what are the pros and cons of them?
Thanks for the help.

Mine came with special tires that are not approved for 2 - up riding. You may want to check that with the one you are looking at. Obviously you will need a seat and floor boards to take the wife along. If it was in police service, you also will need to convert the flashers to civilian use if that has not been done. IF you want to add a tour pak, make sure you install it with enough clearance for the saddlebags to open properly. Most of my friends bought their police bikes new and are happy with them. I am delighted with mine.

I have a couple of cop bikes and love them..one is a 06 Road king 5 speed tranny, with the 88 motor..Also have an 07 Road King 6 speed tranny with the 103 motor.
The 103 with the 6 speed is my daily rider and if you can is the way to go..especially with 2 up riding..The local shop told me last week that the trade in value of my 07 bike was 8500.00..so my advice to you is keep shopping..Good Luck

I have a 2011 FLHTP and have been happy ever since. The 103 is awesome and with all kinds of changes and add ons I made out very well. I would agree that there are MANY cop bikes out there with low low mileage...11000 is actually high for a service bike.... Do your homework as the cop bikes have different wiring harnesses etc...

Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it. I'm gonna try to at least look at the bike this weekend if the weather holds. We are supposed to get SNOW again! We just got rid of what we had. Only been able to ride a few times this year so far. I agree that the price is high for this bike but I'll see if we can negotiate on it.
Thanks again for all the help and links.

I believe you can do better. I haven't seen this bike and I realize it isn't in your area, but it's an example of what's out there. I've always been a fan of the 02's.
