Exclamation Help please, exhaust gastet replacement

Can someone please tell me how to replace the exhaust gaskets in the head on my 2010 Ultra Classic. The service manual is no help. The head pipe removal section says, 'remove gaskets, and discard' but doesn't tell you how to remove them. I not into guessing.

Thank you!

Once you disconnect the exhaust pipe and move it out of the way, it should seem pretty obvious on how to remove the gasket.

Sometimes they might get stuck in the channel, so you might need a small pick or flat bladed screwdriver to dig it out.

If you already have the new gasket, you should understand what it is your looking for.
Keep in mind your old gasket will be quite a bit more compressed and the color will make it almost look blended in to the exhaust port.

I wiggled a small/flat screwdriver between cyl port wall & gasket & yanked out w/needle nose pliers where there was enough room. Harder part is cramming the new one(s) in place w/o damaging. Make sure you rub some dish soap round & push in evenly...or you'll be getting another $6 gasket.

Thanks everyone! I don't like guessing at stuff. Glad the forum is here for a quick 'Help me!". I'd rather post that then 'Hey I am a dumbass'. LOL!

Yup just dig old one out.
I read a tip on here and tried it last time and it worked good. Put a light coat of wd-40 on out side of new gasket and it slides in real easy.

I too used WD40 also used I think was a 1 1/2" socket to tap in all the way. Needed to be gentle but worked great

They are out! Thanks again. Used a craftsman L-shaped pic and grabbed them from the back and they popped right out.

Man I hate messing with the exhaust system, but on my model it is always in the way of working on something simple. Once you remove and install the exhaust a couple times, you pick up a few tricks to make the job go faster. WD-40 is what I use, but I never considered dish soap until now.

Well, the dish washing soap trick didn't help getting the new ones in. Crushed the first one. Got it in there but it has a big hump in it on the inner portion. Well at least I am getting practice taking them out, LOL! Headed to the HD dealer to pick up a few more. The dish soap is plenty slippery enough, probaply more so than WD-40. I was afraid to try WD-40 thinking the paint would come off the motor. Well it came off anyway with the dish soap. Don't know why maybe it is just cooked so bad from the heat that it can't adhere to the aluminum anymore.

The jackpot instructions specifically say to use the tapered OEM gaskets because the head pipe is designed for them. I can't see how the OEM gaskets are going to work though as they are the same outside diameter as the head pipe. Oh, well I'll go get some more and go from there.
