Removing foam from backrest.

Removing foam from backrest.
I want to trim some of the foam from the passenger backrest so I can create more room on the back seat for the little lady when I install the driver's backrest (Sundowner).
It's an HD short smooth passenger backrest and it's sewed-up all around.
Do I just cut the seams and carve-out the foam with an electric knife or something? Then stitch it back up? Any tricks?
Maybe I'd be smarter to take it to a professional, eh? But what fun is that?

You can do it but you will have to have access to some good equipment to make it last. I have done it but you will need a professional stapler, sewing machine and possibly have to make a new vinyl cover. Better let a pro do it. May be easier to modify the back rest upright and have it rechromed.

Here's how I see this. You're asking how to do this mod to your backrest. That tells me you should have a pro do the job. First of all your "WIFE" will be pleased & second you won't have to answer all the questions about what the hell happened to your backrest. Been there done that!!!
My only real concern is really how to STITCH the dang cover back on and not look like chit. Yeah, there is a local guy who builds seats etc (like Mean City)...I'll be calling him (Bitchin Stichin).
