Yea its in there in the top end engine section. Its easy just take a feeler gauge kit and measure the gap between the rocker arm and the support plate if you decide to shim it up the min thickness is .004" I had a hard time finding that information.

when istalling 259 cams I was told to measure those rocker gaps but advised also not to worry with only 30k on the stock motor, also told to just pick up a set of new stock lifters and no worries there either.......Well it was noisey LOUD ticking,...better lifters (black opps from HQ)...loud noisy tick gone.tg good advice

I stuck with the factory pushrods, although I have a set of perfect fits. I think I have a bad lifter though because the thing sure gets noisy when its hot. I'm going to try replacing the lifters first then I'll look over the rocker arm end play. I have the feeling that you may have found the root cause of the problem here.
Do you folks think the next step would be to take the top end apart and check end-play?

I was just about to order the black ops lifters but once I spoke to a few techs and they advised the HD stock lifter is the same as the Corvette lifter and have never seen one go bad, I went this rout instead. The problem is that the intake wants to push the support plate to the right side and the exhaust wants to push the plate to the left side and over time this creates a wear pattern that needs to be shored up. I dont know why the black ops lifter is working for many of us but when I look at the cost of the shims $6 usd per pack, I figured this would not hurt. My buddy just heard my engine and wants me to do his.
