My sticker is mounted on a plate to what HD calls the "rear fork bracket." Some might call it the swing arm bracket. Basically, it is the bracket where the passenger foot boards attach. Use the bottom bracket bolt. The 2007 torque value for this bolt is 34-42 ft-lbs.

On the Ultra's there isn't a spot that is suitable for the plate that is non-removable. My dealer wrapped it around the frame in behind the lowers. It can be seen if being looked for but not readily seen to be recognized when walking by the bike.

NYS law requires the sticker to be visible and attached to the left side of the bike. The inspector I use tells me there are a number of approved spots but if you use a plate it must be afixed to the bike by a minimum of two bolts, one of which must be covered by the sticker so that the sticker/plate can not be removed without damaging the sticker to prevent it from being installed onto another bike. Some inspectors will install it anywhere you like or give it to you to do yourself, others won't as this is illegal. I have lots of friends who use the single bolt plate. None who have had any problems with local leos but it gives them probable cause if they need it. I leave mine on the front fork lower leg. It doesn't bother me and I won't give the law any reason to give me grief. Been riding too many years (40) and been hassled to many times. Used to be I couldn't pull out of the driveway on my Pan without getting stopped. Tired of that **** now....If I do something wrong then you got me but I'm not giving it away anymore!

la just gives you the sticker and i keep it in a bag with the registration and proof of insurance. i guess they figure that since it is designed to be placed on the inside of the windshield, if you stuck it on plate or something it would be 'backwards'

if you think the inspection sticker is bad, try a dod decal. those really suck.

I live in Northern VA and I just don't even bother getting my bikes inspected anymore. When my 06 RG inspection expired, I just took off the plate. When I had my Fat Boy my inpection expired in 07...never renewed it. I traded in both with no current inspection last year.

I bought my 02 SERK from a Maryland dealer in April 2010...there is still no VA inspection sticker on it and I don't plan on getting one anytime soon.

I have never had the police stop me for not having an inspection sticker...if they look over at your bike at a stop light and they can't see it they have no clue...but if you have one and it is expired then they stop you.

If you take care of your motorcycle the inspection means nothing as it should always pass. It is just a money maker for the state.

Unfortunetly in my part of Va the state troopers have a habit of conducting road check and they do check for inspection stickers. They don't seen to care where it's mounted but they do check to see if it there and current.

even more so if you don't have it and get a ticket. at least here in la. it is $10 per year for the inspection, takes about 5 minutes.

if you don't have a sticker and get ticketed, its $185.00. i'll not take my chances, and just pay the $10.00 (one ticket will have paid for 18 years worth of inspections. just how lucky do ya feel )

Mine is mounted to the bottom of the engine gaurd (crash bar.... whatever you want to call it). Then I have an additional one mounted to the bolt for the horn for my base decals. Unfortunatly I have to have both to be able to ride the bike to work. Where in VA are you? I bought my bike at Bayside Harley Davidson in Portsmouth and they gave me the first plate.
